India is the home of the gods; we have over 2 million temples, and the number is growing day by the day. And what is the most common thing about all these temples that we worship the most? It is the food that we accept as a gift from God.
In India, there are about 50,000 temples that provide daily meals to devotees; Some of them alone prepares more than 1 lakh meals, averaging over 2 crore meals each day.
Can you imagine how much fuel is consumed on a daily basis in these kind of community kitchens?
For example, the Golden Temple consumes 100 LPG cylinders and 5000 kilos of fuel every day. They only prepare one lakh meals a day so just think how much LPG is consumed in the preparation of two crore meals.
What if we say, we can cook the same number of meals without using any fuel?
To address this, ARS has developed its new technology AGNI 69, a straightforward solution which can be extremely useful in preparing community foods without burning any fuels, reducing fuel consumption by about 80%.
SO, WHAT IS AGNI-69?
AGNi-69 systems generate steam/hot water at the required temperatures,
It works on the principle of a point concentrator. Agni 69 is a dish with multiple mirrors in a 69 square metre area, thus it is named as AGNI-69. The purpose of all those mirrors is to reflect the sun’s rays and focus them on one point which is called receiver.
Due to high concentration of solar rays at the receiver, heat is generated, and the temperature at the receiver rises to about 600 to 700 degrees Celsius.
after it reaches the required temperature, water is passed through it. As we know, the boiling point of water is 100 degrees Celsius, so when it passes through 700 degrees it gets converted to super-heated steam.
Then the super-heated steam is passed and stored in a storage vessel, from where it can be supplied to do multiple things.
WHY AGNI-69?
- Provides clean, renewable energy;
- No carbon Emission;
- LPG Savings (up to 1.30 lakhs litres of LPG saving);
- Reduces the use of fossil fuels;
- 4-5 years payback;
WHY AGNI-69 FOR COMMUNITY COOKING?
A significant share of overall food preparation in an institutional kitchen requires boiling of raw food grains (such as rice, lentils, vegetables, etc.,) in water and hence solar thermal solutions are relatively more suitable for such type of cooking.
Currently heat/steam generation is mostly accomplished through the use of fuels such as LPG, Diesel, furnace oil, or electricity, all of which are becoming expensive and scarce day by day. Solar thermal cooking systems are efficient and hygienic for community cooking like residential hostels, industrial/institutional canteens, religious places, community centres, etc. Use of solar energy also endows the user with a clean and environment- friendly reputation.

In Rigveda, Shradul Muni reveals the benefits of solar food as quoted. Sun cooked food improves cellular health and longevity. It strengthens health and mind and removes three major physical disorders (Tridosh) related to digestion, blood circulation and respiratory system. It protects from all diseases. Sun cooked food has great medicinal value. It enhances intellect, genius. Researchers at School of Medicine, New York also confirm that solar cooked food does not release AGEs (Advanced Glycation End products) which are associated with Heart disease, Diabetes and Cancer.
